7th Grade Students learned about a Brizilian street artist named HIGHRAFF. In this project they worked with overlapping, warm and cool colors, and organic shapes. The background was done with color pencils while the objects were done with oil pastels.
This blog is to showcase the tallented art students at Massac Unit 1 Schools. The art work on this site is from students 1st-8th Grade. Enjoy

7th Grade postcards
The 7th Grade have been working on a Street Art Unit. In this unit we look at different street artist and what street art is really about. One of the main things that street art represents is "any anonymous work installed, preformed, or attatched in public places, with the distinct purpose of affecting the world in a creative or thought-provoking way" The 7th graders made postcards to anonymously put into hte 8th graders lockers in hope of bringing a smile to their faces or just confuse them for a while.

3rd Grade Weaving
This is the first weaving project I have tried out with the 3rd Grade Class. We took a plastic cup and cut 5 slits all the way down the cup. Then we got out our yarn and started weaving in and out of the slits. This concept was a little difficult at first, but once they got the idea they just took off with weaving. We also added beads to the end for something fun, it was their choice to add them if they wanted.
The insides also look pretty cool.

2nd Grade Kandinsky
Kandinsky is known for his art dealing with circles. Well since the second graders agree with me that Circles are boring, we changed it up and did a Kandinsky Shape project.
White Owls 1st Grade
I read the book "The Little Whie Owl" by Tracey Corderoy to the first grade class. When we were done, we drew a white owl like the books illustration. Some of them included the other owls from the book. Here are the finished works of art.
7th Grade Illusions
This project looks a lot better in person. For some reason these don't photograph well. The students learned how to shade with color pencils for this project. Their goal was to create a sense of illusion by using their shading skills.

This is the last project of 2010 that my 8th Grade Art club did. They painted the celling tiles based off of famous artists. They turned out really great!
